In today’s world, braided cord is used in multiple applications including; laces for shoes, and boots, ties for skates, drawstrings for garments, and even as a tether cord for parachutes!
Since 1915, Textile Manufacturing Company Ltd. has been manufacturing cords and laces in our 30,000 sq. ft. Toronto based plant. We are a fourth generation company that has been making laces, cords, elastics, and braid for longer than any other narrow fabric textile manufacturer in Canada. We have supplied troops through two world wars and we continue to be an important lace supplier to the military today. We use only first quality materials to make all of our cords, laces, elastics, and braid. However, quality raw materials do not, in themselves, make a quality product! Years of manufacturing experience allows us to transform raw yarns into a finished, functional lace like no other company.
The process to make braided cord is neither a simple one, nor a fast one. Did you know that it takes up to 10 minutes for one machine to manufacture enough braid to make just one pair of adult hockey skate laces? The braiding process starts by stripping high tenacity yarn from 10 lb. yarn cones and then transferring it to smaller, specialized yarn tubes that are specifically designed to operate on braiding machines. Once the yarn from the braiding tubes as been transformed into lace, the braiding operator will replace the spent tubes with fresh ones that are loaded with yarn.
This is just the beginning of the long process required in order to make a first quality braided lace.
